One of the reasons web video has become so popular is because viewers finally have control of the experience, on demand. They can view what they want, when they want and how they want. By giving viewers navigation options that allow them to be in the driver's seat, they will naturally become more engaged in the program. For example, you'll want to use a media player with a search option that allows viewers to find relevant content, a table of contents, or agenda points, that allow them to jump to the "chapter" they are most interested in.
For many communication professionals, it may be a natural inclination to start with what you want to say. However, mapping the flow of the program first will ensure that you include all of the right elements in your script that result in a more effective production. During the scriptwriting process, you will need to think "non-linear" and prepare each segment as a standalone element, allowing viewers to navigate the program in a way that allows them to get the information they need quickly.
If you segment your program appropriately and give viewers the ability to jump to the section they're most interested in, the overall view time will exceed that of a program produced in a simple linear format.
