YouTube and Verizon Finalize Deal
Reuters via Yahoo! News reported today that YouTube will offer portions of its content on Verizon Wireless' Vcast service starting in December.
The deal, which was first announced in early November, restricts YouTube content to Verizon's mobile service-- for the moment. YouTube sees the move as an opportunity to broaden its reach from computers to mobile devices. Verizon hopes the pact will boost Vcast subscriptions, which currently cost $15 a month.
Robin Chan, marketing director at Verizon Wireless, explains, "The user-generated content space is a very important sector in media… Vcast subscribers tend to be higher-value customers in terms of ARPU (average revenue per user) versus traditional voice subscribers."
