Fun No. 1 priority at Facebook

By a whopping margin, users at Facebook are interested in fun and games, according to recent numbers released by Flowing Data.

The predilection toward fun is hardly news to anyone familiar with Facebook, which has become a haven for casual gamers fixated on word play and zombies, but the numbers do underscore the priorities of the community.

There are more than 23,000 applications on Facebook, and the bulk of them -- nearly 10,000 and growing -- can be filed under the "Just for Fun" heading. "Gaming" comes in second with a little more than 2,000 applications. Applications marked "Utility" come in fourth, with slightly less than 2,000 total choices.

For widget makers and advertisers looking to work in the space, the choice would seem obvious -- make it fun.
