AOL taps Brightcove for improved video ads

AOL has partnered with Brightcove to distribute all of its online video content throughout the AOL network of websites, in the hopes that it can further monetize its video offerings.

AOL will integrate the Brightcove player with its Platform-A advertising network, making it easier to expand video sponsorships while helping partners monetize video content through advertising, according to a press release. AOL is one of the 10 most popular online video destinations, according to comScore.

"This partnership allows AOL to shift attention away from platform software development and focus instead on core competencies such as aggregating content, creating compelling user experiences and selling advertising," said Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire.

AOL is a minority stakeholder in Brightcove, and Brightcove will begin delivering all of AOL's video content in early 2009.
