Watch television much? Then you're probably a heavy internet user as well, according to a study by Nielsen's new TV/Internet Convergence Panel.
The panel found that the heaviest users of the internet were also likely to be the ones who watch the most television. Not surprisingly, those who watched TV the least were also the least frequent internet users.
Nielsen also found evidence that many people are using the internet and watching TV at the same time. According to the study's findings, nearly 31 percent of in-home internet usage occurred while the user was also watching TV. Nearly 60 percent of all panelists and more than 80 percent of those who both used the internet and watched TV did these activities simultaneously.
While teens were the most likely to be simultaneous users, adults aged 35 to 54 years old spent the most number of minutes watching TV and using the internet at the same time.
Nielsen's sample included almost 3,000 people in more than 1,000 households.
